The Association of Avocado Producers and Packers of Michoacán (APEAM) reported that they exported 25% more in
this trading period then that in the 2010-2011 season, representing approximately 354,255 tons of fruit.
According to a report by the agency, on June 30th the export season ended from 2011 to 2012 of avocados with a positive balance, despite the global crisis.
During the first quarter, APEAM sent approximately 93,743 tons of avocado to the United States, which meant an increase of more than 22,679 tons compared to same export period of 2011.
For the season 2012-2013, avocado growers expect a strong harvest, with a volume of more than 374,213 tons, representing an increase of 6% compared to the current season.
Regarding the period 2012-2013, harvest volumes expect to be 374,525 tons, the United States being the main market, followed by Canada and Japan.
The group of packers reported that they expect positioning even more in the international market, and make new relationships abroad.
