Russians want to compete with imports from other countries
Large-scale newly built glasshouse projects in Russia
In the Russian region Krasnodar many glasshouses are being built at the moment. Also in other regions, such as Dinskoy, Belorechensk, Kushchevskaya, Absheron, Bryukhovetsky, Labinsk areas, but also in Armavir and Sochi plans are on the table to build large-scale glasshouse horticultural projects. Nursery LLC Glasshouse of the Russian grower Sergei Fedroko has a project of 30 HA in the region Bryukhovetskaya. The application for the gas and electricity network was filed in June. All going well Fedroko wants to start building three phases of 10 HA each in early 2013.
In Anapa (region Krasnodar) another seven hectare will still be built this year 2012. With that the total area in Anapa will be 65 HA. The Russian growers want to try and compete with their local production against imports from Turkey and other countries.
LCC Greenhouse still have a number of large-scale projects under their control. In this way Fedroko is also responsible for the building of 80 HA in the republic Adygea.
Sales of glasshouse vegetables will mainly go to destinations outside the region. Nevertheless part will be sold locally, because the Russian growers are known as producers of quality products amongst the local population. As a result an extra 25% is generally paid for locally grown glasshouse vegetables..
Russia is for 60% dependent on the import of glasshouse vegetables. The Russian government is in favour of local production and therefore stimulates the building of new glasshouses through a finance arrangement. In the south of Russia production costs of vegetables is glasshouses are about 20-25% lower than in other areas of the country. Even when higher energy costs there are taken into account.
