Supply peak for raspberries on its way

Mainly in the areas of South Germany with favourable climates the main phase of the raspberry harvest took place last week. Since the beginning of last week the supply here has been increasing greatly, reports the German Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI).

Although up until now almost only Spanish raspberries were advertised, more and more German raspberries are being represented. The prices at the wholesalers are going down, regardless of the origin.

The predicted tropical temperatures will probably quicken the harvest pressure in South Germany. In the cooler parts of the country, mainly the northern areas, the harvest season is just starting. But a large supply is already coming from Poland, as the weather conditions there have been better than in North Germany. Due to the quick increase of the supply the prices on the markets are becoming pressured at the moment.

The German raspberry harvest will probably be smaller than last year, reports the AMI. The reason for this is harvest drop outs due to frost. The slightly decreased raspberry area (-1% compared to 2011) will have a limited effect.
