Germany: Landgard pulls on the breaks

Landgard, Germany's biggest marketing organisation for flowers, plants, vegetables and fruit, is in trouble. Despite a record turnover last year of over 2 billion Euro, the company is in the red.

The reason for the problems - besides the EHEC-crisis - could be that the company grew too quickly. Due to various diverse mergers over the past years the company now has 3500 employees in the centre of Europe. Growers who deliver products to Landgard, complain about shortages with sales.

That's why Landgard has pulled on the breaks. With Gerold Kaltenbach and Jürgen Rosar, there is a new steering committee. The board of directors now has 10 instead of 5 members. They have to check if structures and processes will be suitable for the size of the company. Besides this, the members should keep an eye on the books of the company.

The good news: according to information there is no threat of insolvency. Therefore the past years have been to keep the company going. There are also no jobs in danger. The company is even looking for qualified people, in particular for auditing, but also in other areas.
