"This year production in Verona started earlier, even before it did in Bari (South Italy), but now the campaign is about to finish, earlier than usual", the owner, Danila Bragantini says.
In main producer countries weather conditions were not good. "There were not huge volumes of cherries in Europe - Danila goes on - so prices were higher than last year, but not high enough due to the small supply. General crisis of consumption affected this sector as well".
Replying a Dutch importer about the quality of the Turkish cherries and the end of the Spanish season, Danila affirms: "Turkish cherries which suffered from rains were the ones cultivated on the plains. Plus, the Spanish season has not finished yet because the Picota variety is arriving on the market. Prices of Spanish cherries are relatively low so I think there might be big volumes"
"Some customers do not believe that the Italian cherry campaign is about to finish they just think we want to rise prices!".
At Bragantini, quality control is guaranteed by BRC, GlobalGAP, ISO, HACCP and traceability.
