Massimo Ceradini says: "We took the decision last summer (2011), after looking for the best position for the new plant, situated in Velo Veronese (Verona, Italy) at 1150 m above sea level. We worked hard for six months, even when it was -20° and on the snow. The plant is now ready and it was inaugurated last Sunday 17th June 2012 with a party where there were more than 350 people."

Inauguration.

On 2 hectares of land there were planted 150,000 small strawberry plants out-of-ground. Production is expected to be from the end of June until the end of September.

"From a technical point of view," Massimo explains, "the plant is provided with a rain water saving system and leachate, frost protection equipment in order to extend the production system and keep a wet microclimate inside the greenhouses, management of feeding systems and the most advanced technologies on the market. Moreover, the strategic position together with useful insects and natural prevention systems let us to avoid chemical treatments that are usually used in strawberry cultivation."

Fertigation devices.

Cultivated varieties are: Irma, for most of the land, then Portola and Santa Andreas, all of them chosen for their flavouring. The plant is also provided with a greenhouse aimed to research and development to test the characteristics of new varieties.

Marketing
There is also a marketing policy to promote this new product.

"We chose an innovative packaging," Massimo explains, "with photographic quality for the graphic. Packaging presents three different types of bottom in order to be used as promotional pictures. The trademark Fragolà is the one that represents ourselves: we want to sell strawberries like the ones we used to eat, the ones that used to have a particular smell and flavour, the ones it is difficult to find today."

"Our historical customers’ feedback is so positive we are going to widen the cultivated land for the next season! Our aim is to make customers fall in love with our strawberries - Fragolà - so that when they go to the shops they ask for them again and again."
