Mexico: Starting the melon harvesting

The melon harvesting started in the second part of June in San Pedro (Mexico), as commented by José Natividad Navarro Morales, director of Rural Development.

The production in San Pedro happens two months after the one in Matamos, so this last one is still supplying the market.

For Navarro Morales, melon producers in San Pedro expect a good sale due the present price for a kilo of melon - 4.50 Pesos, after a price of 2 Pesos some weeks ago.

For the direction of Rural Development, the harvest started last weekend "when a trailer full of melon got out to the market."

It's important to mention that for melon producers, not like in previous years, the production will be harvested without losses, as no phenomenon affected it.

420 hectares were harvest in San Pedro. Each hectare can give 30 tons of fruit.
