Spain: Semillas Fitó new tomato varieties
Moreover, Duratom has the following resistances: HR:ToMV/TSWV/Fol:0,1/Vd; IR:TYLCV/Mi and T:VER/Cr.
The commercial success of Duratom is the answer to the policies by Semillas Fitó to invest in IDi, in market segments like tomato and in the development of new varieties with growers of each area. When a novelty hits the market, its commercial potential is already known.
That's what happened in the last campaigns with varieties like Byelsa for pear tomatoes, Alterio and Bigram for vine tomatoes or Summerbrix for cherry tomato, that continue to see high demand among professional farmers.
More novelties for this campaign
To answer to such a dynamic market like the one for greenhouse tomato, Semillas Fitó must continuously innovate its variety catalogue and, for this campaign, they count on important novelties, as always. The first one is Molier, a vine tomato of large cycle, with a vigorous covered plant and short internodes. The stalk has a thick backbone of dark green colour, keeping its freshness for a larger period after harvesting. Molier is a large fruit, size M-B, of intense red colour and good conservation. It can be transplanted from mid August to September and from December to the begining of January. Molier has the following resistances: HR:ToMV/Fol: 0,1/Vd/TSWV and IR:TYLCV/Mi.
The second important novelty is Paladium. It's a tomato of large cycle for transplanting in August. Of size M-B and a high Brix degree that can reach 7.5, which is well appreciated by consumers. Moreover, farmers are valuing it quite positively as it keeps its quality during Winter.
Paladium has the following resistances: HR:ToMV/TSWV/Fol:0,1/Vd and IR:TYLCV/Mi.
Other important novelty for this campaign is the cherry tomato Lazarino, that presents a vigorous plant of short internode and medium leave coverage, adapted to large and short cycle cultivations. The bunch is open, with a high number of fruits, high productivity. Lazarino is a cherry tomato to be harvested loose, with a high quality fruit, round, diameter 25-30mm and an average weight of 12-14gr. Of excellent taste, this variety reaches and average of 8º Brix. Transplanting is recommended in the first months of August until the end of October and in Spring.
Lazarino has the following resistances: HR:ToMV and IR:TYLCV/Mi.
Lastly, a highlight to the new rootstock for Silex tomatoes, in its pre-commercial stage. Silex presents a medium vigor, with a potent radical system, bringing up a bigger production and fruit size, but keeping its quality and uniformity, without raising to an excessive vigour.
Silex is recommended for short and large cycles and has the following resistances: HR:ToMV/Mi/Fol: 0, 1, 2/For/Vd/Pl.
