Switzerland: Migros opens 55 convenience stores by petrol stations

Socar Energy Switzerland (Socar), the future operator of more than 170 former Esso-petrol stations, has signed a franchise deal with Migrolino for 55 of the large petrol stations. The first Socar-petrol stations with a Migrolino shop will most likely be opened this autumn, reports the German website Gabot.de.

Migrolino is a subsidiary of the Swiss Migros cooperation and is the leading purveyor within the Swiss convenience market. Migrolino has shops in stations, at petrol stations and other busy locations and is currently situated in 175 locations in Switzerland.

The franchise agreement is an attractive opportunity for Migrolino to expand its presence in Switzerland. Ernst Dieter Berninghaus from the Migros cooperation is convinced, "The petrol stations, which were formally owned by Esso, are placed in favourable locations in Switzerland. Joining Socar petrol stations with Migrolino shops will mean ultra-modern, customer focused service stations, which will be the ideal way for the expansion of the current Migrolino shops. That is why this franchise model between Migros and Socar with create a win-win situation for both."
