UK: Jaffa announces winner of space hoppers for schools competition
Children from Brookwood Primary School in Woking, Surrey, took first prize in the nationwide competition, which launched in September. The school beat entries from around the country to receive the first prize of £1,500 to spend on new equipment or facilities.
The Jaffa Space Hoppers for Schools Competition saw Jaffa branded orange space hoppers sent to 120 primary schools in the UK. Classes were asked to incorporate the iconic toys into one of their lessons or activities, the more inventive the better.
The winning school used the space hoppers as part of a lunchtime club, named the ‘Jumping Jaffas Fun Club’. The club was run by year 6 pupils and encouraged younger children to play together, and develop teamwork skills.
Marius du Plessis, General Manager of Mehadrin, which owns the Jaffa brand said: “Educating children about eating healthily and leading a healthy lifestyle is something Jaffa is passionate about, and this competition is a great way to this. The standard of entries has been exceptional and we were very impressed by the enthusiasm and creativity shown by the children and teachers”.
The judging panel for the competition included representatives from Tesco Head Office, MMUK and MTEX.
Wallace Primary School in Renfrewshire, Scotland and Isaac Newton Primary School in Lincolnshire were chosen as runners up and each received £500 towards school equipment.
