US: ProEcuador to open office at Miami Free Zone
ProEcuador was established by the Ecuadorian Chancellory as a public institution committed to the development of business and new commercial opportunities for the country’s businesses, exporters and producers. The new Doral office, slated to open July 19, will support Ecuadorian companies to bring products and services to the Miami area.
“Ecuador has opened for business, and it did so in Doral,” said Fernando Navia, trade commissioner of Ecuador in Miami, in a statement. “We strategically located our office in the Miami Free Zone because of the logistical platform it provides. The networking among tenants, being centrally located, and the proximity to the airport and seaport were all things we considered and saw as beneficial for business development.”
According to WorldCity’s analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data, Ecuador is No. 15 in total trade with the Miami Customs District, which is Ecuador’s No. 3 trade partner, after Los Angeles and Houston. In 2011, the top imports from Ecuador were fresh-cut flowers, live crustaceans and fish fillets.
Nonprofit firm CORPEI had an office in Miami to promote exports and private investment from Ecuador, but it has since closed. CORPEI works with ProEcuador to promote trade and investment.
