Concha, Toro and Rio Blanco interested in acquiring land for cultivation

Chilean companies looking to produce grape, avocado and citrus in Peru

The president and general manager for the Peruvian consulting company Informacción, Fernando Cilloniz, assured last Wednesday that Chilean companies like Concha, Toro and Río Blanco are in a quite advanced stage of buy land in Peru to cultivate table grape and other fruits like avocado.

"The Concha and Toro group are more advanced than we think and looking for land for grapes, avocado and citrus," he said in the seminar, "Peruvian-Chilean Business Integration: A new idea or a growing and virtuous process?", organized by the Chilean-Peruvian Chamber of Commerce by the Peru Embassy.

"Truth be told, these are the two big ones. Río Blanco is looking for land and Verfrut have already bought land and has some quite important plantations," he added.

Even if Verfrut plantantions are incipient, starting this campaign the Chilean grape will start to show up in Piura, in the North of Peru", underlined the president.

On their side, the company Río Blanco is looking to invest in the northern region of Ica and in other places in Chile, as mentioned by Cillóniz.

Asked about the interest of Chilean companies in the project "Irrigation and Hydro-energy Olmos" in Lambayeque (North of Peru) the president of the Committee of Land Promotion for Public Auction within the project has set apart their interest in a participation, for now: "Olmos is quite attractive, but there will be water there only in two years time. For now, these companies are looking for lands that have water already". The project has presently 38,000 hectares of land to be auctioned.

As for the biding process, and in order to complete the 38,000 hectares of concession given to the Brazilian company, "Odebrecht", on the 12 of April, they planned to auction 18,760 hectares more.

Previously, in December 2011, 10 companies got 19,330 hectares in Peru.
