US: Houweling’s Tomatoes achieves non-GMO project verification

Houweling’s Tomatoes is the latest in a growing list of companies verified by the Non-GMO Project. The Non-GMO Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and building sources of non-GMO (genetically modified organism) products, as well as educating and ensuring that consumers have the opportunity to make informed choices.

“Although Houweling’s has always been committed to growing tomatoes from non-GMO seeds,” said CEO Casey Houweling, “it is becoming more and more important for consumers to be aware of this. The number of inquiries we receive on whether or not we are GMO has never been greater. Recently, we took a call from a California consumer who was convinced our tomatoes were GMO because they were ‘too perfect’. What does that say about a consumer mindset that links great quality with genetic tampering?”

Houweling’s is delighted to partner with the Project, and is hopeful that this reputable third party verification will provide that extra level of confidence to the consuming public. More information on the Non-GMO Project can be found at www.nongmoproject.org.
