Brazil imposes rule for Argentine apple and pear imports

The Secretary of Agricultural Protection of the Ministry of Agriculture, published in the Official Union Journal (DOU) on Friday, Normative Instruction number 12, in
which it is stated that apple, pear and quince imports from Argentina are subject to prior import authorization.


 
According to the government's standard, the applicant shall request as from this week the import authorization from the technical area of plant health in the Federal Superintendency of Agriculture of the Federation's Unit of product destination.
 
In the process the applicant must include: the import authorization application, proof of exporter's enrolment in the Register of Exporters of the National Health
and Food Quality Service (SENASA, Argentina), proof of registration along with
Senasa as warehouse storage and / or cold chambers for the Export Program under the Integrated System for Risk Mitigation of apples, pears and quinces to Brazil, and copy of the import license in the Foreign Trade System (Siscomex) which
contains the identification of the Minimal Unit of Registration (UMI); which is made
up of discriminating species, varieties and certain amount of boxes.
 
It is estimated that last year Argentina exported 44% of apples and 71% of pears to Brazil. Brazilian imports of Argentine apples last year reached 73.7 tons and a cost of R 63.5 million. Pear imports reached 149.6 tons and represent the Argentine exporters with R 137.3 million.
