They offer opportunities for agricultural products to reach those markets under the FTA already in force.
Orinoco producers and entrepreneurs could explore the possibilities in the U.S. market for several lines of agricultural export opportunities under the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Colombia and the United States which is already in force.
A study by the consulting international trade firm Araujo Ibarra, identified 603 Colombian products with potential in the U.S. market, of which 108 are agricultural and 495 industrial.
The study also concluded that in the districts of California, New York, Texas, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan and Florida are the largest opportunities to export Colombian Orinoco products, which are distributed in agricultural products, apparel, food processing, livestock, plastics, rubber and articles.
With these products the Orinoco will diversify the export structure of the region, which currently is focused on fuel and oils (99.8%).
Moreover, the Office for the Development of the TLC that the national government implemented, established a list of potential agricultural products of the Altillanura with potential conditions to access the U.S. market, which are currently produced in Meta, Casanare and Vichada.
The list is headed by the citrus and other fruits such as watermelon, passion fruit, pineapple, papaya, avocado, blackberry, mango and lulo besides beans and tomatoes.
