PLASTICS launches “Air-Pass” to reduce mould in punnets
The breathable material “Air-Pass” in two different sizes.
After being tested for 3 months, its results are very interesting. Different types of fruit and vegetables were used in the test, among them tomatoes, cherries, strawberries, apricots, green beans, artichokes, table grapes.
In the picture: grapes packed with “Air-Pass” and kept in fridge for about 2 months, without any kind of preservative. The test was done at the Teresa Diomede’s company Racemus. Other tests, with excellent results, were carried out on strawberries at the Faculty of Agriculture in Bari (Italy).
As Gianni Grittani, PLASTICS’ owner, explains, “Thanks to the results we have had so far, we understand that mould is due to two main causes: the lack of ventilation from one side and even in punnets pierced on the bottom, and on the other hand the accumulation of humidity from the water inside the fruit itself. 'Air-Pass' put in the bottom of punnets, lets air pass (95%) and prevents ventilation holes from being obstructed. The better the ventilation is the less mould is formed.”
In the picture: an demo to show how “Air-Pass” is is breathable. A flare used in stadiums was used for the demo.
In order to reduce packaging costs, “Air-Pass” was lightened to the density of 15 kg/mc in respect to 18 kg/mc which is the lightest packaging product in the market, in this way it allows 16.66% saving.
The company is going to show the product to any firm freely.
