Piet Bouma (Arava): all growing areas producing

"To-day started with herb supplier in Serbia"

Since all herb producing countries are now producing it is rather crowded on the market. "The European cultivation is a bit in the way. Traditionally we are allowed to supplement the shortages" said Piet Bouma of Arava Holland. "But at the moment we also import herbs from Kenya, Ethiopia and India and with effect from to-day we also start with an originally Israeli grower in Serbia."

"The demand for herbs is rather wide spread. Both the countries of the Benelux, Scandinavia and Germany are buying well. The demand is mainly for the existing collection. Only the supply of rucola is somewhat smaller and chives are really a hot item" Piet says. "The market is a bit quiet at the moment and I do not think that there will be a big change in the coming weeks. We mainly work with seasonal prices and that makes it a lot clearer for the suppliers and the clients."
