Brazil: Farmers estimate a 20% increase in carambola production

The region of Mirandópolis is the second largest producer in the state of Sao Paulo.

Sao Paulo farmers are harvesting the carambola crop. The changes in the way they manage the orchards will help to improve performance in properties.

The Carambola´s characteristics are its star shape and sweet flavor. In the region of Mirandópolis, at the northwest of Sao Paulo, there are 4.200 feet crops, it is the second largest producer in the state. The nine producers in the city use irrigation. The crop also requires pruning at the top and inside of the feet to facilitate the manual collection that is done several times in the year.

A farmer harvests the variety known as Malaysia, which is very sweet and therefore with greater demand. "We should collect about 200 tons. We believe in an increase of over 20% compared to last season," said a producer in a interview with G1.
