"With expantion packing capacity has increased to 10,000 a day"

Reijnpack BV after 40 year still in growing fase

The premises just outside Sint-Philipsland

For 40 years, the Dutch company Reijn Pack Ltd has been active in the chicory market. Reijn Pack grew from the very start and recently expanded with a new office and three forcing cells. Rien Reijngoudt explains about the beginning and growth of Reijn Pack. "My father Marinus started some 50 years ago with the cultivation of chicory and I got involved at our own premises in 1972. In the beginning we grew chicory on open ground but around '75 we switched totally to hydroponic growth. Since 1978 we have been packing our own chicory."

"Today we are one of the largest packing companies of chicory in the Netherlands and we work with about 50 people, who every day answer the demand of our customers in a flexible way." There is close cooperation between the cultivation and packing at Reijnlof Reijn Pack.

New A4 is needed

Packaging capacity increased by 10,000 per day"
"With the expansion of our forcing cells there are now between 35 and 40,000 packs being sent out every day. Previously, this volume was between 25 and 30,000 containers. What makes us stand out is the proof of the quality brand MasterClass," said Rien enthusiastically. "Our customers always know where to find us and know that we honour our brand to do what our packaging indicates. We deliver top quality, master quality. With us quantity and quality go hand in hand." As another distinctive advantage the owner names flexibility. "We manage the whole process. From cultivation to delivery to our customers, this keeps the lines short. By packaging ourselves, we can reduce handling and so the products remain nice all the way to the shelf. Chicory is one of the most sensitive vegetables."

The expansion from three pull cels

"Flexible working and directly addressing the demand for us is very important." In the future he expects that this effect will be even stronger. "The new A4 is vital for us. In terms of time savings we have a big advantage. We have the perfect location and can reach our destinations in good time."

For Reijn Pack the many opportunities in the ways of packaging is a flexible part of the business. "For us everything is possible: whatever packaging the customer demands we provide." Rien emphasizes that the relationship with the customer is number one. "Without fuss and by just doing what they ask. This is also one of the biggest challenges for an entrepreneur. You have to want it and go for it."

Major customers are mainly exporters who deliver to various countries. "We can say that our chicory is available almost worldwide. 90% of our chicory is sent abroad and the majority goes to Italy. I think we deliver to a total of about 30 retailers."
