"Glasshouse vegetable market good in general"

"Netherlands: "Cucumber prices more than halved"

"In general the glasshouse vegetable season is running well at the moment. The supply is starting to increase because of the warmer weather and prices are as normal" a Belgian trader explains. "At least for most products. The prices of cucumbers and aubergines are a lot lower this week." He mentions that vegetables this season came three to four weeks later than other years. "This is mainly the result of the colder spring weather."

The exporter does not know why cucumbers and aubergines have lower prices. "This week there is more supply than normal. But advance planning with glasshouse vegetables and other fruit and vegetable products is in any case impossible. With a larger supply things are not going as smoothly and the market is partly blocksed again. At the moment, I think, it needs a little time for cucumbers and aubergines to recuperate. Nevertheless it is difficult to predict."

"The cucumber price for 300 grs. is 13 cents, 350 grs. is 15 cents and 400 grs. is
19 cents" the trader sums up. "Compared to ten days ago the price for 400 grs. was 50 cents. Consequently the price has been more than halved."
