Rob Kuijper:

"Netherlands: "We've had a dissapointing Costa Rican melon season"

The Costa Rican melon season has now finished. Herman Kuijper Ltd from Amstelveen, Netherlands, recently received the last containers, but according to Rob Kuijper the season didn't all go according to plan. "The supply of melons was pretty big. Brazil continued for along time, until the beginning of April. The quality of the yellow melons was significantly less compared to last year. The cold weather also didn't help the melon consumption.

"This means the prices have been under pressure almost the whole season, with average prices, which are a lot lower than last year. This will have consequences closer to the new season. There's a lot of room for improvement", says Rob. Herman Kuijper sells the melons under their own brand Caribe throughout the whole of Europe.
