Edeka Nord invest 65 million Euro in Zarrentin

Germany: The German trading company Edeka Nord is in favour of innovative technique. "It has become necessary to rebuild our 20 year old original food warehouse in Zarrentin. This in order to optimise, to reduce fault margins and specially to be able to increase our assortment" Manager Martin Steinmetz says about the decision to rebuild the 70,000 m2 central store. The investment will cost about 65 million euro, of which 18 million will be used to build and rebuild and about
47 million for logistics.
 
The start of the building work has been planned for late 2012. The new development of a 14,000 m2 rack warehouse to be built in silo set-up, a new entrance area for stock and the installation of a fully automatic OPM order picking system will be realised in 2013/2014. In addition Edeka Nord will make use of the technique of the company Witron from Parkstein. Later on the DPS-order picking system will also be installed. Because of the use of these systems about 200 of the 750 jobs will disappear in the medium period. It is expected that the first 100 jobs will fall away at the end of the first building phase in the middle of 2014. The other 100 will fall away in the middle of 2015. as soon as all work has been finished.
