Supermarket tetst: discounter not much cheaper

Germany: In which supermarket are food prices lowest? Where is service exceptionally good and how much more expensive are the goods bought there? The German institute for Service and Quality has compared 17 German supermarket chains with each other, as can be read on rtl.de.

All in all the service-experts gave good marks to the German supermarkets. A special shopping basket of basic foodstuffs was prepared by them. Of each category the cheapest product was bought. On average the food-experts paid
euro 26,96 for a total of 27 products.

Of the supermarkets Kaufland, Edeka, Penny, Netto, Kaiser's, Rewe and Aldi Kaufland
had the best prices, performance and service. Much to our surprise was the small difference in price between the cheapest and most expensive supplier: the difference between Aldi Nord and Familia was euro 2,06, a result of the hard price fight in the food trade. With their house marks, such as 'Ja' or 'Good & Favourable'
all supermarkets offer products at discount prices.

This, however, does not mean that consumers can buy without looking. Certain articles, e.g. organic products or regional offers differ considerably in price. The only solution is then to compare prices, to look carefully at the offers and not to believe each folder immediately.
