Sander Scherff of FruitWorld: very good demand for pineapple- and raspberrystrawberry

"It will be exciting to see what the strawberry supply will be like at the end of May"

The demand for strawberries is reasonable at the moment, but not overdone due to the colder weather. This was said by Sander Scherff of FruitWorld from Breda. "The demand from Scandinavia and Germany is good, and getting better. The United Kingdom will stop with Spanish strawberries in week 19, so I expect more export to there from Holland. The domestic market is also starting to pull up."

"At the moment we have a very stable supply due to the calm weather. This definitely benefits the quality and fruit weight of the strawberries", says Sander. "I expected an increasing demand for the coming weeks due to the Spanish supply stopping. By the end of May the state of the supply could be exciting. The greenhouse production will be reduced by then and the open ground production will be later due to the cold, dark weather."

"The prices are reasonable for good for this time of the year. Week 18 was slightly difficult, but week 19 seems to be good, partially due to the increasing demand from Scandinavia", says Sander. "What else stands out is the good demand for the pineberry and framberry, from the UK, the US, Canada, the Middle East and Russia."
