Brazil: Consumers prefer Kent, Kitt and Palmer mangoes

The market for mangoes without fibre is growing internationally, affirms André Briso, manager of Agropar, a Brazilian company supporting exporters and importers of agricultural products.

"People are changing their preferences on mango consumption and means a swing from the Tommy Atkins to Kent, Kitt and Palmer. Due to this, we advise our customers to produce those varieties for a better future," said the manager of Agropar.

An other important aspect is that the local Brazilian market is growing more than other countries. "In some months of the year it's possible to export due to the high prices in Brazil," he said.

Due to a big mango demand for some months of the year, Agropar is looking for the chance to import mango to Brazil. "This import should be easy to do as the fruits would be sent to our customers in Brazil," said André.

To highlight the fact that Agropar is looking for producers in Africa who can produce and export this fruit, so they can offer it in the Brazilian market in bigger amounts and in periods when internal production is not enough. "Our idea, as a consulting company, is to transfer to African countries the technology for the production, post-harvest and commercialization processes for mango to the fruit a special position in the market," affirmed Briso.

Agropar expects to create a quality seal called "Quality Seal Agropar", that allows identification of fruits of excellent quality in the markets.
