"Netherlands: "Mushroom market reasonably good for time of the year"

It's been heading in the right direction in the mushroom market for a few weeks. According to Arno van den Oord of Champoord, they 'can't complain'. "The main reason for the good market situation is that the supply from the various countries has been less for a while. The weather is also helping. It's a good temperature for our trade and this means the demand is at a good level", says the wholesaler.

Less competition from seasonal products

He indicates that the reasonably good situation applies to almost all products that Champoord offers. "The demand for the white and special mushrooms is just right. It's striking for this time of year, because normally we have more competition from new seasonal products such as asparagus and strawberries." Arno thinks the reason for the lower supply is due to there being less production.

The main sales companies are the traditional buyers France, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Scandinavia, Germany, and Spain. At the moment the specialist doesn't have any products for the open market. "We are only working with contracts at the moment." He hopes that the situation will continue like this for a while. "If the supply remains limited over the entire line, I expect the market to remain at a reasonable level."
