German apple harvest increased by 7.6%

The apple harvest in Germany has grown by around 63,000 tonnes to 898,448 tonnes in 2011. That's an increase of around 7.6% compared to 2010. Almost 70% of the harvest was frown in the states Baden-Württemberg, Niedersachsen and Sachsen. The total cultivation area of 31,608 hectares has decreased slightly compared to 2010, by 200 hectares. The largest areas were also in the state Baden-Württemberg (9,553 hectares), Niersaschen (7,760 hectares) and Saschen (2,557 hectares). The average apple yield was highest in Saschen last year, at 28,420 kilos per hectare. After that it was Hamburg (35,440 kg per hectare), Nordrhein-Westfalen (33,530 kg per hectare) and Saschen-Anhalt (33.500 kg per hectare).
