FEPEX exposed the need for the entrance prices regime to be changed, since the deficient communitarian norm is allowing the non-payment of border rights, keeping and worsening the markets crisis, specially for prices, which affects stability and competitiveness in the sector. For FEPEX, the reform of the Regulation must warrant the respect for price levels on imports and the payment of demanded rights if prices in the importing markets are below the levels established in the entrance price regime.
FEPEX also asked the State Secretary for support in the European Commission so a real opening of new markets is made for exporting fruits and vegetables. It informed that the Spanish horticultural exports to non-communitarian countries only represented, in 2011, 7.6% of the amount and this is due, mainly, to the non-tariff barriers that don't allow exports to markets with potential like the United States or Japan, that even register a drop tendency. Exports of fruits and vegetables to Japan in 2011 was only of 18 tons, some 35% less than in 2010 and to the United States were exported 57,415 tons, some 11% less than in 2010.
FEPEX showed to the State Secretary the need to support the sector's promotion and, in that sense, asked for its support to Fruit Attraction, the international fair of fruits and vegetables, with its fourth edition taking place from the 24 to the 26 of October, in Madrid. A fair that already became an effective promotion tool for the sector, allowing to intensify commercial actions and improve its position in the international market.
On the other hand, FEPEX exposed also the effectiveness of sector's plans by the Institute of External Commerce, regarding flowers and living plants, specially in the scope of international fairs.
