Brazil can import avocado from Chile

The Ministry of Agriculture, Live-stock and Supply (MAPA) of Brazil approved the health plan requirements for avocado imports from Chile. Recommendations were published in the Union's Official Diary last Friday, 20 of April, through the Normative Instruction n.ยบ 9 and it refers to the American Persea variety.

According to the Normative Instruction, products must be washed, brushed, waxed and free of vegetable leftovers, impurities and soil material. The shipment must be accompanied by a Health Certificate (HC), issued by the National Organization of Health Protection (NOHP) in the exporting country, with an additional declaration assuring that the lot was inspected and found free of Pseudococcus calceolariae and Brevipalpus chilensis.

The fruits will be inspected at the entrance point in Brazil, by the Health Inspection and will be held on the sample's collection for health analysis in the official or accredited laboratories by MAPA. The costs of sending samples and its analysis are on the importer responsible.

Chilean NOHP should notify the Brazilian NOHP about any outbreak of new plagues in its territory.
