US: Specialty Produce founder honoured

Frieda Rapoport Caplan, Founder of Frieda’s Specialty Produce, was honored at the National Association of Women Business Owners 26th Annual NAWBO-LA Awards Luncheon alongside other influential Southern California women business owners Cookie Johnson of CJ by Cookie Johnson and Lubov Azria of BCBG Max Azria. The NAWBO-LA Awards gave tribute to top achievers and advocates in the women's business community and recognized their contributions to the advancement of women. The event took place on Friday, March 23, 2012, at the JW Marriott at LA LIVE.

Caplan received the Legacy Award for her role as the first woman to own a U.S. produce business, her continuous efforts in the advancement of women in the business world, and her activism in women’s rights. Caplan is most known for introducing the Kiwifruit to America in 1962, and Frieda’s, Inc. has since introduced over 200 specialty produce items to U.S. supermarkets. This year marks the company’s 50th anniversary.
