Strawberry supply rather small end of March

The German Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI) announce that there was absolutely no oversupply of strawberries at the end of March. Supply from Spain and Morocco is limited. Also the top of the harvest in Spanish Huelva will be reached in the coming ten days. Up to now 30% of the harvest has been picked. As the reason not only the continuing results of the last cold period in February, but also amongst others the change to new varieties, are mentioned. Against the relatively small supply there is, however, a growing demand resulting in very stable prices.

The tendency up to Easter is closely linked to the weather expectations. As soon as spring temperatures and sunshine reappear a shortage may arise in the market. In the middle of week 13 the selling prices in the shop were already 30 to 40 cents/kg higher than in the same week last year.
