Spain: Khaki, a cultivation on the rise

The Valencian Institute for Agricultural Investigations and the OD "Khaki Ribera del Xúquer" had, on the 22 of March, a journey about Khaki cultivation, bringing together a wide representation of producers in the area, which is not surprising since the success of the "Rojo Brillante" (Shinny Red) variety. This khaki variety, sold hard, managed to open new markets in Europe and delivered a profit to farmers.

In the meeting were present Cirilo Arnandis, President for the OD, Diego Intringliolo, Fernando Pomares and Antonio Vicent, investigators at IVIA, that talked about fertilization, watering and the circle spot in the khaki. After it there was a round table to comment on the themes. The table was moderated by José Malagón, responsible for the Fruit culture section in the Technological Development Service at IVIA. The journey ended with the general director General of Agricultural and Livestock production from the Council of Agriculture, Manuel Lainez.

Anecoop commercialized, during this campaign, around 50,000 tons of "Rojo Brillante" khaki, through the Persimon Group, created within Anecoop and bringing together 14 cooperatives producing this fruit.
