Hans Steltenpool (Dutch Carrot Group): Large quality differences

"EU: "Not too much demand on quiet carrot market"

The market of carrots is still very quiet. "It just shimmers ahead with the potatoes and onion trade." Hans Steltenpool of Dutch Carrot Group says. "The demand is not too big and in many cases the quality of the carrots is not first class. The differences in quality are large, but there are some bad lots!"

The prices of the field plants are, dependent on the quality, between 12 and 17 cents. Steltenpool does not expect a big revival. "The market will continue as it is. Some carrots are going to the local market and Germany and every now and then to Poland and Russia, but those are not big vessels (to the Eastern block). There are no large volumes."
