Increase in turnover for German food trade

The German food trade can be satisfied with the year 2011: the branch reports an increase in turnover by 1.8%. It's the second year in a row that the turnover increased. In 2010 the increase was even slightly higher, at 2.3%. The branch turnover in 2011 increased by 227.9 billion Euro in total.

This result was published by the German trade magazine 'Lebensmittel Zeitung' in it's exclusive ranking of Germany's biggest food stores. The creation of this ranking was in the hands of the market research bureau TradeDimensions.

The ranking shows that 97.5%, around 222 billion Euro, was brought in by the top 30 food stores. Just like in 2010 this list was led by Edeka and ended with Feneberg in 30th place. Edeka made a turnover of 47.5 billion Euro in 2011 and remained number 1 in German food stores. Compared to 2010 the turnover of the company grew by 4.1%.

The full results and the total ranking can be viewed in the most recent edition of Lebensmittel Zeitung.
