The first shipment of sweet chilli from Costa Rica left last week for the United States, containing 10,500 kilos. This is a success for Costa Rica, as it managed to open the market for this product, according to the information from Erick Cedeño, who is in charge of the chilli and tomato program for export to the US, from the Department of Health Plan Certification by SFE.
This first chilli for exporting project has 10 hectares, divided into 17 modules of greenhouses, placed in Cordoncillo de Volcán (Buenos Aires de Puntarenas) and belongs to the company Corporation for Agricultural Development Del Monte.
This is a multicolored chilli export, destined to the Philadelphia port, has the Vikingo and Sunnyez (yellow), Sidenka and Aifos (red), and Magno and Sympathy (orange) varieties.
It's planned to send containers on a weekly basis. The first stage goes from March to July of this year and will be followed by further exports from October to December.
