The Government of Ecuador is planning to create a state export company in order to balance the banana market and protect small producers from the abuses of the exporters.
He recognizes that it is "not easy" to create the company because it takes experience, logistics, "it is not just about wanting to do things, we must be able to do them."
During a radio interview with Impact of the town of PiƱas, the President urged farmers to lose their fear and denounce the exporters' abuse and he did not rule out expropriate or nationalized companies that partake in illegal practices like removing the quota, charging for training and other "traps".
The President pointed out that although, there were about 200 exporters, 80% of the market is really handled by four or five companies.
"We know this. We are intervening, but we need a little help from certain producers, that are disciplined, we don't want the most crafty or roguish to win but we do want farmers to denounce the abuse," he said.
One of the many abuses, is that in high season exporters and producers are asking the government not to get involved in the regulation (not to sign contracts and sell in the spot market), but in the off season there they do request that the Executive
defends them and guarantee a minimum price, among other things.
