"Import of solo garlic from China is 25-30% lower"

Export of Chinese solo garlic is starting again

The supply of solo garlic from China will probably be 25 to 30% lower this year than last year. This was said by the importers, who have seen the situation in China first hand. The export of Chinese solo garlic will start again next week. According to importers this expected decrease in supply has various causes. Growers have planted less garlic due to the high seed prices. Instead of this growers chose to grow beans. The dry weather in the Dali and Yunnan regions also didn't stimulate the garlic cultivation. In some areas it hasn't rained for four months.

Besides this the solo garlic and regular garlic ratio has changed this year. In the past the ratio was sometimes at 80% solo garlic and 20% regular garlic, but according to importers the ratio in some areas is 60/40% this year. Chinese seed traders say that the volume of solo garlic in China last year was 90,000 tonnes. This year the volume will be 70,000 tonnes at most.
