"Gerard Sevenhuijsen: "Eastblock not or hardly interested"
Export red and white cabbage precarious
The export of red and white cabbage is precarious. "There is just a lack of demand. Hardly anything is going to the Eastblock countries also sales of red and white cabbage to other destinations is only very limited," according to Gerard Sevenhuijsen of Tuindersbelang, The Netherlands, who is involved in the mediation of red and white cabbage.
"Prices are consequently low. For Danish cabbage one pays between four and ten cents and the price of red cabbage is between 9 and 16 cents and that has already been like this for a little while" Gerard says. "If there will be a recovery remains an open question. For the time being we can handle quite a bit more. The quality is first class, but we suffer from a shortage in demand!"
