In connection with these figures, at the end of week 9 of the 2008/2009 season, 99 containers were exported and 1,598 containers were accumulated. Subsequently, in week 9 of the 2010/2011 season, 314 containers were exported and 4,455 containers were accumulated. Thus, the decrease in the shipping of containers has been 35.85%, in comparison to the previous season.
In the 2011-2012 season, which ends in March, only 63,000 MT were exported. The BCR warns that illegal mining in Piura puts mango production at risk.
The mango export volume, corresponding to the period 2011/2012, recorded a fall of over 50% due to lower production of this fruit due to climate factors, according to Juan Carlos Rivera, manager of the Peruvian Association of Mango Producers and Exporters (APEM abbreviation in Spanish).
The major exporters this season are Sunshine Export (11%), FLP of Peru (8%), Dominus (7%), Camposol (6%) and Frutas Piuranas (4%). In addition, five companies are associated with APEM.
At week 9, APEM members represent 44% of Peruvian mango exports.
On the other hand, the main destinations for Peruvian fruit in week 9 are the Netherlands (43%), the United States (37%) and England (7%). Also, three treatment plants are operating for the United States, with expectations that only one of them will remain by week 15.
Finally, the APEMĀ“s manager estimated that during the production campaign of April 2011 - March 2012 around 63 tons will be exported, which represents a decrease of 52% compared to 130,000 tons exported in the period of April 2010 - March 2011.
