Mexico: Tomato price getting back on its feet

Unlike the past six weeks, where the saladette and globe tomato prices were on the floor, last week they picked up a little, said the president of Sistema Producto Tomate.

Manuel Antonio Cazares Castro, president of Sistema Producto Tomate, said that this situation was already foreseen due
to the excess area for planting, particularly in Sinaloa, where it grew by 10% of their net production and 22% in protected
horticulture.

Apart from this excess of production in Sinaloa, states like Florida in the United States did not have frost problems this year, so that led to an increase in production.

Farmers who are in Group El Porvenir did not have any problems with low
prices, since they only produced special tomatoes.

70% of the area of Grupo El Porvenir was established for a special tomatoes like campari, cherry and other varieties.

Currently the globe and saladette tomato box, is in a range between USD$7 and USD$8, which is very positive, considering that in the past few weeks the box was between USD$3 and USD$4; gradually it has increased its price.
