Israel: Oven-ready potatoes hit in the UK

Maon packing house in the western Negev recently produced a new small package of potatoes ready for the oven. The new bag contains a variety of potatoes ideal in sizes, saving consumers the need of sorting, peeling and cutting large potatoes.

The baby potatoes are a hit among chefs, catering companies and cooking enthusiasts in the UK and other countries in Europe because of their strong concentrated rich taste. Due to the delicate skin of the small potatoes there is no need to peel them before baking, thus reducing waste and saving time. Until launching the "Uncle Moses" potatoes, several years ago, all potatoes were sold in bulk mixed bags without differentiation between varieties and sizes, "We were the first in Israel to establish the distribution of potatoes into bags according to their purpose: Boiling, baking or frying. Each bag contains the appropriate size and variety. "Maon" enterprises have been awarded the prestigious prize at the food exhibition Sial in Paris for the innovative process," said a company representative.

The small baking bags are a further step to ease the eating of healthy food, such as root vegetables of high nutritional value, by consumers eating. The, recently launched, "uncle Moses" carrot chips series is an additional step in this direction., encouraging eating carrots as a healthy snack between meals instead of artificial substitutes.
