Wageningen UR have already been doing research in China for more than 20 years and have an office in Beijing. Dr.Aalt Dijkhuizen, chairman of the Board of Directors of Wageningen UR expressed his admiration for the quick development of Beijing and China. “With the increasing worldwide demand for food, food producing sectors are faced with great pressure and challenge in providing sufficient as well as safe food for the consumers, using less resources such as space, chemicals, fertilizer and water. The dense population in the Netherlands has been one of the drivers for innovation in the sector.” He also emphasized the importance of schooling of the people in order to use the new technology to the best advantage. The agreement was also signed by Loek Hermans, chairman of Greenport Holland, in order to stress the commitment of the Dutch horticultural sector. This is the first area of cooperation. Hermans feels it is his task to include the best Dutch companies in this arrangement.
