UK: 140 jobs to go as EVS closes it's doors

140 jobs to go in closure of Newport firm English Village Salads. The company announced yesterday it will cease trading at the end of March following a 90-day consultation period with all 178 staff. ​

The announcement comes after ASDA, a major EVS customer took a substantial part of its salads procurement in-house.This, combined with the ongoing challenging trading environment, prompted management to conclude the business would not be viable going forward.

EVS said it had made “significant efforts” to assist staff find alternative employment in the local area and relocate staff wherever possible within the Bakkavör Group, of which EVS is part.However it anticipates 140 staff will be made redundant.Melrow Salads, near Southport, also part of the Bakkavör Group, will take on the existing customer and grower relationships.
