Spanish imports of fruit and vegetables dropped 8% in volume regarding the previous year, adding up to 2.27 million tons and the value dropped 4.4%, to be around the 1.409 million Euro, according to data from the Customs General Direction, made public this week after processing by FEPEX.

Imports of vegetables were at 1.11 million tons (-12%) at a value of 490 million Euro (-4%).

Potato still is the most imported product with 649,995 tons (-16%), by a value of 187 million Euro (-0,1%).

Imports of fruits reached 1.16 million tons (-3.5%) with a value of 920 million Euro (-5%).

In fruits, the highlight goes for apple, pineapple and kiwi. Imports of apple were of 192,999 tons (-8%) at 156 million Euro (+3.7%), pineapple dropped to 134,925 tons (+14.5%) and 87 million Euro (+11%) and kiwi was of 114,265 tons (-8%) by 118 million Euro (-5%).
For FEPEX, the drop in imports of fruits and vegetables in 2011 is a reflex of the stagnation in some cases and recession in others, of the consumption caused by the crisis.
