Pipfruit New Zealand announces new CEO
Mr Pollard, a Christchurch businessman, will commence his role with Pipfruit NZ in mid March 2012.
He is a Chartered Accountant with an extensive background in management of large law firms. Mr Pollard was until recently President of the Canterbury Employers Chamber of Commerce.
“Although Alan has not previously been involved in horticulture, he has the acumen and communication skills to quickly become an asset to our industry,” Pipfruit NZ Chairman Ian Palmer stated today. “He is accustomed to dealing with Government politicians and officials in a highly regulated environment, and will be an excellent advocate for apple and pear growers and exporters. His background in law and commerce is what we need and he has the right personality to establish strong relationships throughout our supply chain.”
Mr Pollard is looking forward to joining Pipfruit NZ. “This is an exciting opportunity for me to add my contribution to an industry which, while facing its own challenges, is an important part of the New Zealand economy and is held in such high regard both domestically and internationally”.
Retiring Chief Executive Peter Beaven will assume a part time transitional role as Special Projects Manager.
Pipfruit NZ is the industry organisation for apple and pear growers, packers and exporters, based in Hastings. Its activities are funded by a Levy paid on all fruit sold fresh for export or on the local market.
