Argentinean blueberry exports to Europe up on last year

Argentina has seen blueberry export volumes to Europe grow by 18% on last season, according to the Argentinean Blueberry Committee (ABC).

In 2010/11, 15,328,133 tonnes of Argentinian blueberries were exported in total; 4,049,098t to Europe. The 2011/12 season has seen total shipments reach 15,803t, of which 4,788t were shipped to Europe – an 18% increase on the 2010 season.

ABC Manager, Inés Peláez said; “We are very pleased that exports of Argentinean blueberries to Europe have grown this year. It seems that European consumers are becoming more aware of the fruit and there is now more demand for it.”

For the past three years, the ABC has been part of the Blueberries from the South campaign with Chile and Uruguay. In 2011, ABC launched a standalone European campaign to promote Argentinean blueberries in the UK, France, Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands.

Peláez added: “All our markets are important to us, and as a committee we feel it’s imperative to deliver a good quality of service and provide accurate and reliable information to the industry and consumers.”
