The Washington Navel bud wood was grafted on sour orange root stock, which was commonly used in the first half of the 20th century, but is seldom used anymore. Sky Valley Heirloom Navel oranges are a reminder of another time when fruit was grown for its flavor and enjoyment, not its sizing or its timing.
