Spain: Anecoop makes first sale in the Persian Gulf

Anecoop the top agricultural cooperative in Spain has made its first shipments of fresh products to the Persian Gulf. Anecoop exports around 625,000 tons of product and has a turnover of 485 million Euro.

Talking to "La voz de Almería" (daily regional newspaper), the commercial director for Anecoop, Francisco Borrás, explained that those countries in the Gulf "are monopolized by Egypt and Turkey, who supply them of all kinds of fruit and vegetables by truck. We just took a small part by introducing our citrus fruits and khakis".

Anecoop uses sea containers to reach the Emirates (Dubai), Qatar and Saudi Arabia. "Anecoop started in 1975 with a premise that we still keep today, to continue to open new markets, specially the more complex ones", according to its president, Juan Safon.

An example of the strategic premise is the branch in Moscow - Agrikoop - to supply the Russian market and neighbouring countries like Ukraine and Belarus. As said by Francisco Borrás, "we are successful each time we send fruit and vegetables there".
