"VLAM: "Peak; the unveiling of Responsibly Fresh"

Photographic report Belgian standholders Fruit Logistica

The Belgian standholders were again present in large numbers at Fruit Logistica 2012. VLAM was present for the 20th time this year and its familiar place in hall 6.2 with a group stand for the fruit and vegetable sector, where exporters and sector organisations can meet their customers and business relations. The fruit and vegetable stand took an area of 403m2 and counted 17 fruit and vegetable
exporters, namely: Bel’export; Belfrutex/Boussier; Bingo Fresh; Calsa; DBS; De Plecker – Lauwers; Demargro / Belgian Fruit Company (BFC); DSF; Frans Michiels Belgium (FMB); Fresh Food / Florex; Gemex; Herwi; Nicolaï Fruit; Pacbelimex; Vanco Belgium; Vergro; Wouters Fruithandel. In addition the potato sector was also well represented with a stand of 114m2 and 6 export companies: Bart’s Potato Company; Binst Breeding & Selection; Dauchy NV; Muyshondt; Potato Masters and Warnez.

This year the stand has been improved. Wooden panels were combined with striking pictures at the top of the stand. These showed apart from atmosphere pictures of products the skill of the Flemish family companies. It is after all the involvement and the skill of these family companies, which supply products of top quality. "The fruit was presented in payful globes and displays. As last year the vegetables were shown in a large Flandria wall, which again was emphasized by large photographs at the back. Also Speciality Street was again in its separate area and presentation well illustrated. The most striking corner was of course the durability corner, where we really went all out with the new 'Responsibly Fresh' trademark" Sofie Lambrecht tells.

"The fair started with an immediate peak: The unveiling of the new durability hallmark by our Prime Minister Kris Peeters. 'Responsibly Fresh' symbolyzes the engagement of the fruit and vegetable producers and cooperatives to go the road to further durability together. All fruit and vegetables with this label have been produced with attention to the equilibrium between people, plant and profit."

"The exporters and trade organisations were again full of praise at the end of the fair. They have for three days again non-stop been able to strengthen their contacts with existing clients and to meet new ones. It was striking that the first day was still busier at our stand than the first day of the fair of 2011. There were also far more visitors from Russia and neighbouring countries and less visitors from South European countries."

"The Belgian fruit and vegetable producers and producer corporations have with this fair left the crisis year 2011 behind them and have clearly shown that they are prepared to invest with the new durability hallmark 'Responsibly Fresh' in the future. VLAM together with them therefore looks positively at 2012."

The various directors of Belgian auction houses of course also visited.

The importers were mainly present in the communal stand of the
European Centre for fruit and vegetables. As every year director
Thierry Nuttin and Marion Van Cauteren were ready to speak to
everybody.
