US (CA): Gills Onions on Discovery Channel's Dirty Jobs

Gills Onions, an industry leader in fresh-cut onions for retail and foodservice outlets, is appearing on Discovery Channel’s February 14th episode of Dirty Jobs, airing at 9:00 PST.

The episode was originally shot on March 9, 2010 at the company’s Oxnard, California processing facility. The show’s host, Mike Rowe, was put to the test, working in several areas of the operations. Mike worked side-by-side with plant manager, Fernando Luna, as well as employees on the inspection line.

He operated a fork lift, loading onions into the bin dumper, and worked closely with plant engineer, Arturo Coronado, on the Waste-to-Energy Project. Mike also got to enjoy frying onion rings with Steve Gill.

“We had a great time working with Mike and his crew,” said Nikki Rodoni, Director of Sustainability. “It’s always fun to watch people acclimatise to the onion-filled air once they enter our facility, but the Dirty Jobs crew were great sports, digging right in to the day we had planned for them. It was a very memorable day for all of us!”
